Simple body butter&Lotion

One of the things we women have in common is the desire to polish our skin. We all want to look our best and feel as good as possible and this we do by searching for the best creams, oils, body butters etc in the market. No matter how expensive or inexpensive our choice of product is, they all do share some common recipes and those recipes when used in their natural state tend to give us the best result.

The chemicals found in most of our commercial skin-care& hair products a lot of times leave us with damaged skin& hair due to the harshness of the chemicals. Just like detoxification of our body there are times when our skin and scalp/hair needs to replenish it’s lost nutrients and heal itself of all the damages it’s endured over time. One of the best way to help our skin heal is to feed it with natural and nutritious recipes. These are some of the recipes we will be looking into today.

For centuries coconut oil and shea butter have found their way to the top most recipes used in skin-care and hair products among other things. They are both known for their healing and soothing effects and have been in use for thousands of years.

Coconut oil is a skin super food and has a lot of benefits read more on previous post Coconut oil and it’s benefits. Coconut oil also contains Anti Microbial Lipids, Lauric Acid, Capric Acid, and Caprylic Acid which have Antifungal, Antibacterial and Antiviral properties.

Shea butter is also a super food for the skin and hair and it’s extracted from the fruit of the shea(karite) tree. It’s naturally rich in Vitamins A,E,and F. It also offers UV protection (SPF~6) and provides the skin with essential fatty acids and nutrients necessary for collagen production.

Shea butter is used to remedy dryness of the skin and scalp, also to protect the skin’s natural oils. Shea butter aids in the skin’s natural collagen production and contains Oleic, Stearic, Palmitic and Linolenic Acids that protect and nourish the skin to reduce/prevent dryness.

Long time use of shea butter has shown it softens and smoothings the skin, strengthens the skin to improve its elasticity, helps in the reduction of wrinkles around the eyes, and lips including reducing the bags under the eyes.

Other uses of shea butter include:

* Natural moisturizer for the face and body
* Reduces/prevents stretch mark in pregnancy
* A very good body(oil) massager
* Great for home-made baby-care products for your baby’s skin, and hair.
* Shea butter is also used in treatment of cold even in children and could be massaged all over a baby to reduce fever.

One of the best way to enjoy these super foods is by preparing simple body butter&lotion with them. This is great for your baby’s skin and hair. You can also use it to reduce stretch marks around the tummy after pregnancy(it worked for me). You can use your simple body butter& lotion to brighten your skin(elbows, knees, ankles and the armpit) including other parts of the body.

This simple body butter& lotion can be used:
* to treat split ends on hair, reduce/prevent dandruff, soften your hair and help your hair glow.
* treat facial breakouts(acne). Massage into face in circular motion after washing your face with water and soap before going to bed.
* it can be used as an after-shave.
*it can be used to reduce the appearance of scar
*it can be used to treat cracked lips and under the nose for cold and also to reduce dryness.
*it can be used as cuticles cream, to strengthen the nails, and on your hands to soften the palms and brighten your knuckles and so much more.

To get the best out of these recipes(coconut oil & shea butter) like every other body oil it’s better used at night before going to bed if you live in areas where the sun is quite hot.

You can experiment and let us share in your findings.

To prepare your simple body butter& lotion you need

1) unrefined shea butter
2) virgin coconut oil or your homemade coconut oil. You would find the process of making your coconut oil on my previous post “Coconut oil and it’s benefits”.
3) a bowl
4) a spoon or spectular
5) a storage bowl with lid and an old/used lotion container.

For my simple body butter I measure 1cup/250ml shea butter into a bowl

And add 1/2 cup/125ml coconut oil and mix/whip together

This is what it looks like

I pour into my airtight plastic container and store.

For my lotion it’s same process but I use same amount of measurement for both my shea butter and coconut oil and this is what I get

And I store in my old/used lotion container

You might want to add an essential oil to yours. But I prefer mine really simple because of my children.

If you prepare yours with a twixt you are welcome to share with us.

I prepare the lotion for general use my reason being that since you have to deep your finger into your simple body butter to use it, sometimes one can let in germs into your it even though coconut oil is known to contain some Antifungal, Antibacterial and Antiviral properties I still feel it’s better to play it safe. With your simple lotion you can shake well before use.
